Epic Games designed Unreal Engine 5 to scale beautifully, but the default DirectX 12 rendering path is incredibly heavy. When DirectX 12 compiles shaders on the fly, you experience painful micro-stutters during combat.
Performance Mode (Lower Graphical Fidelity) acts as an escape hatch. It switches the engine to a stripped-down mobile-like rendering API. Fortnite is a game where ping dictates the meta. Taking walls is entirely server-authoritative based on latency. Achieving "0-ping" (typically sub-15ms) requires hardwired ethernet, disabling unnecessary background network apps, and utilizing direct fiber routing to AWS datacenters where Epic hosts their servers. Consider optimizing your TCP/IP stack via TCP Optimizer for aggressive packet routing.
